Former Hallmark star Cameron Mathison revealed exciting personal news that immediately got fans talking. The “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” alum and “General Hospital” star took to Instagram on August 9 to gush over the new addition to his family.
Cameron Mathison Is Fostering a Dog
The new Instagram post on Mathison’s page showed him in his car with a dog in the backseat. In the caption, he wrote, “Meet Hunter. Hunter is from West Los Angeles Shelter and is the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet.”
Mathison continued, “He’s a 100 pound Doberman and so far has completely wooed me with his gentle nature and beauty.”
The actor bringing a dog into his life again is a very big deal. Fans know he loved his previous dog, Red, who died in December 2023. On the first anniversary of Red’s death, Mathison shared a tribute to him on Instagram.
“You weren’t just a dog to us… you really were family. Your love, loyalty, and all the laughter you brought to our lives will never fade,” Mathison wrote.
He added, “Miss you every single day Red Red. Thank you for all the joy and unconditional love.”
The Hallmark Alum Has Been Thinking About Adding a Dog to His Life Again for a While
In his new Instagram post about Hunter, Mathison mentioned Red.
“Some of you may remember my Doberman Red, who passed away about a year and a half ago and I’ve been thinking a lot about adopting or fostering another one for a long time.”
Mathison said in his video introducing Hunter, “So, this happened today.”
He continued, “I got a little foster… He looks a crazy, crazy amount like Red.”
“I’m thrilled to have him. I’m thrilled to take him out of that shelter, and we’re going ot hang out.”
Colleagues and fans of Mathison’s were very excited for him. He noted in a comment that Hunter is 6 years old, as quite a few fans commented asking about the dog’s age.
“Awwwwwwwwww,” gushed Mathison’s Great American Family movie co-star, Candace Cameron Bure.
