Hollywood legend Anjelica Huston is officially a cancer survivor, she revealed in an exclusive interview with People published on April 9, 2025.
The actress — whose wide-ranging career has included her Oscar-winning role in 1995’s “Prizzi’s Honor,” her iconic role as Morticia Addams in “The Addams Family” movies, and directing the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie “Riding the Bus With My Sister” — shared that she has privately undergone treatment for cancer following a 2019 diagnosis.
“That was a very serious moment for me,” she told the outlet. “I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself.”
Anjelica Huston Has Chosen to Keep the Type of Cancer She Had Private
Huston, 73, asked that the type of cancer she was diagnosed with remain private, but told People that getting the news was a shock.
“It’s not something that came lightly,” she told the outlet. “It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go. One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things.”
Diagnosed after the release of her movie “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,” Huston celebrated that she’s been “in the clear” for four years.
“I’m at the four-year mark, and that means so much to me,” she said, noting she still gets regular scans. “It’s a fantastic thing. I’m very proud of myself, and I’ve been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful.”
Anjelica Huston Reveals Why She Decided to Come Forward Now With Her Cancer Journey

After keeping her cancer journey private for six years, Huston told People she decided it was time to make it public.
She explained, “Sometimes you feel like you don’t want to talk about it for the obvious reasons, but there’s a lot to be said for talking about it and getting it out there and celebrating the fact that one’s come through. Life is tenuous and wonderful. It also gives you the idea that the world is big and you can somehow match up to it. That you’re ready for whatever happens.”
There was a slowdown in Huston’s acting career after her 2019 diagnosis. She did have a small role in the 2020 movie “Waiting for Anya” and narrated Wes Andersen’s 2021 film “The French Dispatch,” per IMDb, along with taking on a handful of small TV roles since.
Her latest role is in “Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero,” a BritBox miniseries that premieres on April 16. “Riding the Bus With My Sister,” meanwhile, is still available to watch on Hallmark+.
