As if Hallmark fans weren’t excited enough about the new announcement of “The Way Home” renewal, the stars are giving us sneak peeks as filming begins on season three.
Andie MacDowell, the timeless Hallmark fave who plays Del in “The Way Home,” shared a sweet behind-the-scenes selfie with co-star Chyler Leigh. Posted via Facebook on August 18, 2025, and reposted on Instagram by a fan account, MacDowell greeted fans with, “Good morning y’all … I get to work with this absolutely magical person today @thewayhome … #ChylerLeigh.”
That’s more than a photo if you ask us, it’s a full-on vibe! Two women owning the screen and the day, surrounded by real warmth and gratitude, not forced poses.
Not Just Another Selfie!
In case you don’t know who MacDowell is, let’s give a little recap. Born in 1958 in Gaffney, South Carolina, she rose to fame through modeling and hit the cinema gold with “Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.” She went on to radiate in “Groundhog Day” in 1993, and she continued through films like “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Ready or Not.” But throughout the years, she’s been a fan favorite for her work on TV staples like Hallmark’s “Cedar Cove.” Fast forward to 2023, she joined “The Way Home” on Hallmark, portraying a fierce matriarch navigating time-bending, emotional family dramas.
In comes Leigh, who was born in 1982 in North Carolina. Her acting resume is also pretty impressive, beginning her career as a teenager. Remember “Not Another Teen Movie” or her Emmy-worthy Lexie Grey on “Grey’s Anatomy”? We’re obviously still not over her (spoiler alert) tragic death. BUT, we appreciate how much grace and strength she gave the character. We also love that she decided to make a small but important return, despite it being for an episode.
But she continued her work with TV, nailing Alex Danvers in “Supergirl” from 2015 to 2021. Since 2023, she’s been a lead in “The Way Home” as Kat Landry, Del’s daughter. Not only that, but she’s been serving as co-executive producer to boot.
One More Season & Counting
In “The Way Home,” the duo brings real tension and tenderness. Leigh went on to admit, “I was so intimidated meeting her… I just kept staring at her face.” Macdowell, ever the pro, instantly smoothed things over with “this wonderfully smothering hug.”
They’re not just acting like a family; they’re vibing like a family on and off the screen. Leigh even admitted the role has helped “heal her inner child.” And just to add a little bit of excitement for Season 3, just ONE day before the season finale, Hallmark Channel broke the news that the show had been renewed for Season 4.
The actresses decided to surprise their fans online with a video message. With Leigh asking the infamous, “Will there be a season four of ‘The Way Home’?” Macdowel appeared on screen, saying, “The answer is… yes! And we could not be more excited to bring you more romance, family drama, mystery, and of course, time travel. See you all in 2026!”
So yes, the show has been a huge success, and it’s clear to see, especially after fans raved in the comments about the exciting news. “I’m delighted to hear this news from these wonderful ladies! You know, it never occurred to me that there was any possibility of there NOT being a Season 4! Every single episode from the first season has left us sitting on the edge of our seats, eagerly awaiting the next episode,” one fan said in the comments.
“The best news of the year! I am so happy! Our favorite program will be back!!!” another one noted.
We’re excited to see what is next for these leading ladies and the show, of course!
