In June 2020, the celebrity chef shared a photo of Javier helping her with work while they quarantined in their New York home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Burrell passed away on the morning of June 17, at her home in New York. According to TMZ, a representative for the New York City Fire Department confirmed that the 911 caller reported the chef had gone into cardiac arrest.
