Food Network star Anne Burrell passed away in June at the age of 55, and tributes flooded the internet in her honor. She was a beloved chef as well as TV personality.

In one final update on Burrell’s death, it is reported that she died by suicide. PEOPLE reports, with her cause of death being “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.” It was determined by the New York City medical examiner’s office.

Food Network’s Heartfelt Tribute for Anne Burrell

Following the news of Burrell’s passing, the Food Network posted a touching tribute.

“We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning. Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss,” the Instagram post said.

On June 25, they also celebrated the life and work of Burrell by playing “a curated selection of encore episodes featuring Anne will highlight her extraordinary talent as a chef, competitor and teacher,” according to a press release.

It included episodes from “Guy’s Grocery Games,” “Worst Cooks in America: Worst of the Worst,” and “Worst Cooks in America: Boot Camp Diaries.”


Details on Anne Burrell’s Final Night

PEOPLE reported that the night before Burrell was found dead in her home, she was at an improv show.

“Everyone said she was so great last night and so happy,” a source told the outlet.

Another source added that she “was in great spirits last night during and after the improv show. Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast.” And with that, people are “shocked and confused” because she appeared to be okay when she left the improv show.

The Food Network star had been taking improv classes at Second City NYC, and they also posted a tribute for Burrell.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and student, Anne Burrell. She will be missed and remembered as a vibrant part of our Second City New York Training Center community. Anne brought joy, boldness, and an unwavering “yes, and” spirit. Her enthusiasm was contagious, her presence unforgettable. Our thoughts go out to Anne’s family and loved ones,” Second City NYC wrote on Instagram.
