Walt Disney World may soon grow even bigger. With new planning documents hinting at long-term expansion, fans are buzzing about the possibility of a fifth theme park. And that’s not the only upgrade—Disney is also raising the bar for foodies with an elegant new steakhouse helmed by celebrity chef Michael Mina.
Disney World’s 2045 Plan Leaves Room for a New Theme Park
Walt Disney World could be gearing up for its biggest expansion in decades, according to WDWMagic.com. A new Comprehensive Plan 2045 from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District includes development language that would allow for one new major theme park and up to two minor ones over the next few decades.
Though not a confirmation, the plan reserves development space—suggesting that Disney is keeping its options open. The “major theme park” designation covers up to 550 acres, while the “minor” parks would max out around 147 acres each.
Disney World currently features four parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. The largest is Animal Kingdom, which spans over 500 acres, followed by EPCOT at a little over 300 acres. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are both under 160 acres each. Notably, back in 2019, Disney expanded Hollywood Studios by nearly 14 acres with the debut of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The plan also mentions the possibility of expanding existing parks, leveraging the resort’s vast land holdings in Central Florida. With park attendance and tourism on the rise, Disney seems to be laying the groundwork for more magic in the coming years.
Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina Brings Upscale Dining to the Parks
As Disney eyes the future of its parks, it’s also focusing on elevating its dining experiences. Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina recently opened at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, offering guests a luxurious meal just steps away from their favorite attractions.
“The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin is the ideal location for Bourbon Steak,” said Michael Mina in an April press release. “Their strong commitment to culinary excellence aligns perfectly with our vision at The Mina Group.”
The steakhouse is now accepting dinner reservations—though it’s already booked through late July—and boasts a menu full of bold global flavors, premium cuts of beef and seafood, inventive cocktails, and decadent desserts like beignets with dipping sauces.
Guests should come dressed to impress. Disney’s website states that Bourbon Steak is a Signature Dining experience, meaning the dress code prohibits swimwear and offensive language or graphics. “Clothing should be clean, neat, and in good condition,” the policy notes.
“The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin continues to distinguish itself with its food and beverage program,” added Sean Verney, the resort’s general manager. “Welcoming Chef Mina to our culinary offerings continues to push us forward.”
Mina—who holds a James Beard Award and Michelin star—operates more than 40 restaurants worldwide. At Disney, he promises to bring “a fresh perspective to familiar favorites, balancing the joy of the classics with the thrill of the unexpected,” according to Disney’s website.
