Kate Gosselin Explains Why She Has to Work

Reality TV star Kate Gosselin is setting the record straight about why she’s had to return to her career as a nurse.

The former “Jon and Kate Plus 8” star and DWTS alum says while her TLC series about life with eight kids, including a set of sextuplets, made her famous, it didn’t make her rich.

Kate recently started her own TikTok channel, where she shares videos about her life now that her eight children are 21 and over.

In one of her most recent posts, Kate appears in a video recapping her day as a pediatric home healthcare nurse.

“It was another 12 hour day, and my patient and I did a bunch of things. We went all the things together.” Kate went on, explaining, “We went to a birthday party, we played in the water. We spent a lot of time outside. My patient wants to spend time outside, and I, of course, did all of the medical care as well, feeding, bathing and all the things.”

As she unloaded her dishwasher, Kate continued, “And so now I work again tomorrow, so I have my dishes loaded into the dishwasher, my dishwasher running, and so I can go to bed and get up early and do it all over again.”

Fans Ask Kate Why She Has to Work

Fans of the original show, which aired on TLC from 2007 to 2017 have been quick to follow Kate Gosselin’s TikTok account and offer words of encouragement.

In Kate’s post recounting her day, one follower commented, “loving this content. to be honest when i was growing up, the way you were portrayed, i thought you were too harsh. as a mom of 4 (6,6,3,1) now I GET IT. watching things back, you are so organized, intelligent and efficient. keep being you, kate!”

But others had questions, with one writing, “i was one of the biggest fans of your show, never missed it. I don’t read any negative headlines or stuff on the internet. What happened with all the income from the shows. I hate that you are having to work 12 hour shifts.”

Kate Gosselin was quick to reply with a transparent explanation.

She wrote, “Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS. Sickening but I was drug into court constantly and that costs A TON. Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren’t for lawyers :(. It’s okay. I’m helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping.”

In response to another similar comment, Kate wrote, “My kids got a good college fund, a beautiful home and private school. The lawyers got the rest of it. I don’t have a retirement savings. Reality tv doesn’t pay as well as it should when you have to provide for 8 kids on your own.”
