The Grand Ole Opry has been a country music institution for 100 years, playing host to some of the biggest icons in the industry. But what does the future hold for this beloved venue? Vince Gill shared his prediction when speaking to CMT at a recent event. In his estimation, the Opry is here to stay.
“If it’s lasted 100 years, the way it’s been treated, the way it’s been revered, the way it’s been respected,” Gill said. “There’s no way it won’t last another 100 years.” Although no one can know what the future holds, Gill seems confident. “I’ll bet on it,” he said of the Opry’s future. The singer himself has a long history of Opry membership, and it has clearly become an important part of his career.
Wife Amy Grant Commented on Gill’s Dedication to The Opry

Gill made this prediction with wife Amy Grant by his side, and she shared an anecdote that demonstrates just how dedicated the “I Still Believe in You” singer is to the Opry. “Most Friday and Saturday nights that Vince is home, he’s out at the Opry,” Grant said. “And I always say it’s his church.”
The singer has not only put on plenty of stunning Opry performances over the years, but has also welcomed new members. For example, he welcomed Steve Earle to the Opry in April 2025. During the video clip of Gill’s warm welcome, he gave Earle a guitar strap commemorating the Opry’s 100th anniversary. “I get to invite you to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry,” Gill said as he presented the surprise gift.
The Singer Has Been an Opry Member Since The 90s

When Gill first made the move to Nashville in the early 1980s, Opry membership wasn’t necessarily the first thing on his to-do list. However, it wasn’t long before he became a part of music history. As The Boot reported, Gill earned his membership in August 1991, not even ten years after coming to Music City.
According to Gill, one of the most rewarding aspects of Opry membership is connecting with other artists. “The opportunity to sit and have Roy Acuff tell me war stories from 40 or 50 years ago on the road was priceless,” he once said, sharing multiple examples of such unique opportunities. Now, as a hall of famer with decades of success under his belt, Gill has become an Opry legend in his own right.
