Trisha Yearwood Shares Unique Inspiration for ‘Girls Night In’

You likely wouldn’t associate elephants with country music, but Trisha Yearwood certainly does. At least, that’s the case with her latest single, “Girls Night In.” As the singer shared on Instagram, a story about female elephants was a source of inspiration for the recently released track.

“There’s this story about female elephants, who surround each other,” Yearwood shares in the video. “When one is in trouble, they get in a circle and protect the one in the middle.” She went on to explain that situations such an impending birth or sickness often lead to this behavior, and that the female elephants will protect whichever of their herd needs protecting.

“And that’s kind of the way I feel about my girlfriends,” she concluded. “Sometimes it’s my turn, and I need the help. And sometimes it’s your turn, and I got you.”

In recent decades, Yearwood hasn’t been making music as frequently as she did in her early career. However, fans can look forward to a new album next month. “The Mirror,” her first studio record since 2019, will feature “Girls Night In” and two other tracks the singer has already released. One of those tracks, “Bringing The Angels,” made it’s late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live in March 2025.

Yearwood also released “The Wall Or The Way Over,” which she performed live for fans at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee. In speaking with Kelly Clarkson about how performing new music feels, Yearwood shared that it was a vulnerable experience. “I’ve always kind of hidden behind music,” the singer said, referring to the fact that she hasn’t often written her own music. “I can’t say that about these songs. So performing some of them made me just really emotional.”

The Singer Delivered a Surprise Performance at CMA Fest

While awaiting her new album’s release, Yearwood is keeping busy with live performances and other events. During 2025’s CMA Fest, she surprised her fans with an unexpected show at Friends in Low Places. Her husband, Garth Brooks, owns the bar, making it a fitting location for her appearance.

As Parade reported, the singer dug far back in her catalog for the occasion, performing “She’s In Love With The Boy” for the excited crowd. The song was her debut release, and it’s overwhelming success in the early ’90s helped launch Yearwood’s career.
