After canceling summer shows due to ongoing health issues, Tim McGraw made a triumphant return to the stage at the MLB Speedway Classic on August 2, 2025. The country music icon has been recovering from knee and back surgery this year, but he performed alongside Pitbull and Jake Owen for the unique concert. Afterwards, McGraw took to Instagram to post some highlights from the night.
Fans in the comments section lent their support to McGraw, who looks thrilled to be on stage in the photos. “I can’t think of Country Music without you, Tim!” one supportive fan wrote. “It was awesome getting to see you live in concert finally!!” another said. “Thanks for playing all my favorites!” Perhaps most special of all, his daughter, Audrey, reacted to the post with clapping emojis.
McGraw Highlighted His Unique Connection to Baseball

McGraw has a special connection to baseball, and he shared it with fans at the concert. As Country Living reported, the singer wished two former baseball players were in the audience. “I wish my dad and my uncle were here to see it,” McGraw told the crowd. “They would’ve been so inspired and so proud that something like this was going on.”
McGraw’s father, Tug, played for both the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies throughout his 19-season MLB career. His brother, Hank, played in the minor league. Although McGraw didn’t establish a relationship with his father until he was a young adult, baseball has always been an important part of his life.
The Singer Has Had Multiple Surgeries in Recent Years

This MLB Speedway performance comes a few months after McGraw opened up about his recent health struggles. As he explained on an episode of the Bobby Bones Show, issues arose during his 2024 tour. “I had had a back surgery before tour last year,” he said. “That sort of went south on me right at the beginning of the tour.” Unfortunately, McGraw soon found himself having knee problems. “So I had to finish the tour with my knees completely gone and my back gone.”
All told, McGraw had three back surgeries and a double knee replacement within a very short timeframe. He returned to performing at the Music City Rodeo at the end of May, but, as Parade reported, he later had to cancel two July performances due to his most recent back surgery. As of the MLB Speedway Classic performance, McGraw was scheduled to appear at Field of Dreams on August 30.
