Morgan Wallen played shortstop for the Gibbs High School baseball team during its state championship season in 2010. However, the country music star’s relationship with the Tennessee-based school didn’t end after graduation. As Knox News shared, the singer is masking a $1.2 million donation to his alma mater’s athletic program in 2025.
In response to this generous gift, the current principal, Jason Webster, shared that the school’s baseball field will be named in honor of Wallen. As Webster explained in a school board meeting, nominating Wallen for this honor came not just from the singer’s contributions to Gibbs High School itself but from his far-reaching work throughout the county. “[I]n our eyes, it’s also a good gesture for Knox County Schools because of all of the work and money donated by Mr. Wallen’s foundation to probably most of the districts sitting in this room.”
This Isn’t the First Time Wallen Has Made a Donation to Gibbs High School

Although this donation is exceptionally generous, it isn’t the only time Wallen has shared his time and money with Gibbs High School. As Knox News reported in 2023, the singer treated students to an exclusive concert on campus, which fittingly took place on the school’s baseball field.
As senior Abigail Crabtree told Knox News, the concert was particularly meaningful for graduating students: “I feel like all of the seniors needed this. Our freshman year was canceled, and a lot of (2020) seniors didn’t get to finish their year because of [COVID-19]. It was great to do something fun.”
The Morgan Wallen Foundation Has Made a Huge Impact on Schools Across the Country

Over the years, the singer’s charitable reach has extended far beyond his alma mater through the Morgan Wallen Foundation. On the foundation’s homepage, Wallen explains the inspiration behind creating the foundation, sharing that music and sports were fundamental in his early life. He concludes by saying: “I know my life would look a whole lot different [without sports and music], so I want to give great opportunities to kids in these areas.”
In September 2024, WBIR 10 News reported that the foundation donated $140K to help renovate a local park in Knox County, Tennessee, that provides access to baseball and softball fields for local kids. However, the foundation’s work goes much further than sports fields. In October 2024, Music Mayhem shared that the foundation partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to donate more than 140,000 pounds of food to those impacted by Hurricane Helene in East Tennessee. Wallen made a personal appearance for this initiative, visiting areas undergoing hurricane recovery and meeting volunteers.
