Country singer Miranda Lambert is sending more than just love to her home state of Texas. She’s sending help.
The “Kerosene” singer says she’s organizing a benefit concert to raise money for organizations providing relief in the wake of deadly flooding in the Texas hill country over the July 4th holiday.
Miranda’s charity MuttNation is already in Texas, flying at-risk animals to shelters in other parts of the country to make room for pets displaced by the flooding.
But the singer wants to do more. In a call-in to Highway Mornings on SiriusXM, Miranda got emotional talking about the tragedy that has now claimed more than 130 lives.
“I feel like I’m on the verge of tears constantly,” she admitted to host Cody Alan. “I feel… helpless like everybody else. But I know more than anything that Texans help Texans,” she said, expressing pride in how her fellow Texans have stepped up in the tragedy. “I’m working on more things to come. Hopefully next week [I’ll] announce some things I’m trying to do to help.”
When host Cody Alan asked her if she was putting together a benefit concert, Miranda answered, “Yes, We’re working on putting some stuff together. You know, in times like this, our artist community comes together and we’re like ‘Well, we can sing. What can we do? Let us come sing for these people and raise some money to support them. So, I can’t talk about it yet because it’s literally just happening.”
Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation Jumped In Immediately
According to its Instagram account, Miranda Lambert’s pet charity MuttNation jumped in immediately after the tragedy, partnering with Kerrville Pets Alive to provide immediate support for animals displaced by the flooding.
Since then, the charity has been hard at work relocating at-risk pets from Texas shelters to other shelters nationwide. The idea is to make room for pets lost in the flooding so that owners can more easily find them.
And in fact, that is already happening. MuttNation posted this video on Instagram of one Texas flooding victim’s joyful reunion with her little dog Biggie. MuttNation captioned the video “reunions like this keep us going.”
Miranda Lambert Continues to Tour With Morgan Wallen
While Miranda Lambert firms up plans for a Texas Benefit Concert, she’s continuing to criss cross the country as an opening act on Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem” Tour.
In fact, Miranda delighted fans at Wallen’s Miami show by singing one of Morgan’s songs that she co-wrote with him.
In a video posted on her Instagram account, Miranda sings “Thought You Should Know.” In the post, she explains, “A few years ago @morganwallen @nicatnitemusic and I wrote this song about his mama. He doesn’t play it in his set, so I asked if I could sing it with y’all out on the ‘I’m the Problem’ Tour 🩵”
Miranda says opening for the former Voice contestant on his tour has re-inspired her passion for her own career.
During an interview on SiriusXM morning show “Highway Mornings with Cody Alan,” Miranda revealed that even though she’s been in the country music business for years, she’s still taking lessons this summer from Morgan Wallen.
“I’m learning a lot, honestly. I feel like I’m learning about his fan base. It’s kind of people from all walks of life. It’s not necessarily a bunch of country fans, is what I’m seeing from the stage. I’m watching, there’s a certain age group in the middle that may not be as familiar with me. Because I’ve been around forever, but then I see people that are in their 30s and 40s bringing their kids, and they know the songs. So it’s interesting to watch,” she told Alan.
