Leave it to Luke Combs to give us another cover we can’t get enough of! Joining Ivan Neville and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the “Hurricane” singer delivered a powerful and chilling rendition of Sam Cooke’s fan-favorite song “Bring It On Home to Me.”
First released in 1962, the song quickly rose to the top after hitting No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Sides chart. It also reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and later became one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
Combs Delivers Epic Rendition of ‘Bring It Home To Me’
Combs performed the song in Louisiana during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. During the set, he was joined by the talented musicians, where they paid tribute to the “King of Soul.” Combs used his powerful voice to deliver the emotion of the song, honoring not only one of the greatest musicians of all time but also the legacy of the song itself.
This isn’t the first time Combs has surprised the crowd with an epic cover showcasing his country vocals. In 2023, the singer released his own version of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” on his album “Gettin’ Old.” The song quickly gained traction on the American Top 40 and adult contemporary radio after Combs’ release.
As the second single from the album, it reached No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart in 2023, making Chapman the first Black woman to score a number one country hit with a solo composition and the first Black woman to win a CMA Award for Song of the Year. To embrace the success fo the song even more, the duo performed it at the 66th Grammy Awards, marking Chapman’s first performance in nine years.
“Fast Car” Makes History
Combs is set for quite a busy year ahead, after recently being announced as a headliner for the Austin City Limits Festival in October. Before the announcement, he took to Instagram to thank fans for understanding why he is only doing festivals this year instead of straight shows or tours.
“I know we’re only doing festivals in the U.S. this year, but I thank y’all for giving me the opportunity to change things up and not do my own tour while still knowing how much y’all mean to me,” he said. “I just want to be home as much as I can, where I can see my boys grow up and know how important they are to me.”
He continued, “We’re still playing about 10 more times this year, and I look forward to seeing as many of y’all as possible.”
