Luke Combs Covers Teddy Swims’ Smash Hit— & Fans Can’t Get Enough

Luke Combs has done it again! The country singer has taken a powerful song and given it that unmistakable Combs twist, making it completely his own. This time, the country superstar is turning heads with his heartfelt cover of Teddy Swims’ chart-topping single “Lose Control.”

In a video shared to his social media accounts, Combs sings an acoustic rendition of the track with his signature grit and soulful rasp. He captioned the video, “A little ‘Lose Control’ by the man @teddyswims.” Swims quickly responded to the tribute, enthusiastically commenting “Ayyyyy” and “Go!!!” to show his support.

A Viral Hit Meets Country Soul

Originally released in 2023, “Lose Control” became Teddy Swims’ breakout single from his debut album “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1).” The song first landed on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 99. By March 2024, it quickly put Swims on the radar by soaring to No. 1.

Since then, it has shattered records! The viral hit has spent more than 60 nonconsecutive weeks in the Hot 100’s top 10 and has surpassed 92 total weeks on the chart. Swims broke the previous record set by Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves.” The single was also nominated for six Billboard Music Awards in 2024, ultimately winning Top Radio Song and cementing Swims as a rising force in pop and soul music.

Luke Combs’ Track Record of Iconic Covers

This isn’t the first time Combs has turned a hit song into a country staple. In 2023, he released a cover of Tracy Chapman’s iconic 1988 track “Fast Car.” The song was part of his fourth studio album, “Gettin’ Old.” His version climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Country Airplay chart. Combs’ version reintroduced the song to a whole new generation of fans, and for a good reasoon.

Chapman’s original won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1989 and was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Remarkably, 35 years later, Combs’ rendition was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance. Reflecting on the full-circle moment, Combs shared, “Tracy is such an icon and, I mean, one of the best songwriters that I think any of us will ever be around to see. It’s just such a cool full-circle moment for me. Just to be associated with her in any way is super humbling.”

With “Lose Control,” Combs adds yet another unforgettable cover to his growing list. It’s one that honors a friend and proves once again that great music knows no genre boundaries.
