Any true fan of country superstar Kelsea Ballerini knows the singer is devoted to her dog Dibs.
And right now the golden doodle is giving Kelsea a lot to celebrate. In her Instagram stories, Kelsea put up a post celebrating Dibs’ 10th birthday. That’s an especially big deal because the pup was diagnosed with inoperable heart cancer last August.
At the time, Kelsea posted details on her Instagram stories writing, “He’s not in pain, and luckily it hasn’t spread further,” she wrote. “We’re going to start him on the ‘big’ meds to try to make sure he can have as many comfortable and happy days (weeks, months🙏) left as possible.”
But since then, Dibs has happily defied the odds. In fact, the Instagram stories post celebrating the pup’s tenth birthday shows Dibs wearing a birthday party hat and bib, seeming happy and healthy. It even looks like he’s smiling! A caption on the photo reads, “happy 10th birthday to my sweet dibby doo. you’re my best friend forever and i’m so grateful we get to celebrate double digits together. you’re kicking cancers a**”
Dibs Has Seen Kelsea Ballerini Through a Lot
Regular followers of Kelsea Ballerini’s social media accounts can attest that the doodle has been Kelsea’s “ride or die” since she adopted him in 2015.
In fact, the singer named Dibs after her song by the same name released that year. The lyrics to the chorus of that song are,
“I’m callin’ dibs
On your lips, on your kiss
On your time
Boy, I’m callin’ dibs
On your hand, on your heart
All mine”
When Kelsea Ballerini let fans in on Dibs’ heart cancer diagnosis, she wrote, “It’s a complex and emotional time. He’s been my baby and my steady for the last 9 years and very much alongside this whole journey with us all.”
Kelsea Ballerini Is Taking a Much-Needed Break With Her Pup
Well Kelsea’s social media posts frequently show Dibs along for the ride on tour stops, even flying in a helicopter over New York City before her show at Madison Square Garden, this summer the pair will be spending time at home.
According to Rolling Stone, after headlining at the CMA Fest in Nashville June 6, Kelsea told SoFi CMO Lauren Stafford-Webb during a Q&A session for SoFi Plus members, “The next right thing for me is to just be… be quiet for a bit. I think I’m in this season of rest, where I start to find what actually excites me creatively and what I want to do. I’ve been in a sprint, and it’s been beautiful… but I’m going to [waves goodbye] for a while and see what happens.”
Kelsea went on, explaining, “It’s been a really busy last few years, and especially doing ‘The Voice’ and coming off my first arena tour. I don’t want to keep going in a sprint and not take a breath after that and enjoy what that was, because I never knew if I’d get to do with either of those things, and the fact that we did them, and they were so wonderful, like, I just want to sit in that for a minute. And I also have no idea musically what I’m doing next, and I’m not gonna know that until I just park it for a second. I can’t make a s***** album. I need to take a breath and cook a meal and, like, learn to play tennis or something, and then pick up a guitar.”
