Kane Brown Makes Film Debut With Taylor Lautner in Rom-Com

Heads up, Country fans, Kane Brown is heading to the big screen!

Taking steps into a new venture, Brown is making his official film debut opposite “Twilight” actor Taylor Lautner. The two are set to star in the upcoming romantic comedy “The Token Groomsman.” The film, announced by Deadline, will be directed by Natalie Simpkins and promises a blend of humor, charm, and unexpected romance.

From Music to Movies

According to Deadline, the story “follows the career-focused Scott (Lautner), who has hit rock bottom at work when he finds himself invited to be a groomsman at an elite, luxury, destination wedding. The only problem is—he doesn’t remember who the groom is!”

“Enticed by the rich and powerful and hoping to make some new business connections, Scott jets off to Italy, planning to blend in and quickly cash out. But when sparks unexpectedly fly with the groom’s sister, Mia, Scott has to decide between ‘closing the deal’ for money or for love,” the outlet reports. Kane Brown will portray Neil, none other than Scott’s best friend and what we believe is his loyal sidekick.

Simpkins shared her excitement about casting Brown in the role. “We knew we needed bold, lovable personalities to match the heart and humor of this story,” she said. “Kane brings something so unique. He has a rare mix of vulnerability and magnetism that’s incredibly compelling.”

The screenplay for “The Token Groomsman” was co-written by John C. Hall and Sohale Andrus Mortazavi. Trying to get things going, production is expected to begin later this year.

From Country Charts to Hollywood Sets

While this marks Brown’s first official film role, it’s not his first time stepping into acting. In 2023, he appeared in the CBS drama “Fire Country.” Showing fans a different side of his talent, several praised him for stepping outside of his comfort zone. However, Brown has been a household name since his breakout in 2016 with his self-titled debut album. He quickly made history as the first artist to lead all five of Billboard’s main country charts simultaneously.
