Fans of 90s country music likely remember Lorrie Morgan from her number-one hit “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” in 1995. Sadly, the singer now has to find some of that strength to weather a family tragedy. As People reported, Morgan’s husband, Randy White, died on June 1st after a long battle with cancer. In a touching Instagram post, Morgan’s son, country singer Jesse Keith Whitley, paid tribute to his departed stepdad soon after his death.
The post included a collage of funny photos of White, showing off his sense of humor. Whitley chose candid shots of White at home, where he was undoubtedly surrounded by family. Whitley also added a long caption illustrating all of the ways White changed his life for the better as a stepfather.
Whitley Says White Was a Supportive Stepfather and Grandfather

The singer’s moving post about his stepfather highlighted some of the best aspects of their relationship. For example, Whitley mentioned that White helped him build a better relationship with his religion, and gladly served as a designated driver on multiple occasions.
Commenting on how his stepdad treated his mother, Whitley said: “He has shown unconditional love to my mother and been the most gentle soul to ever grace this entire family.” The country singer concluded with a heartfelt goodbye, writing: “We will miss you always and forever and our hearts are shattered in losing you. But you have fought one helluva fight RanMan!” White received his original cancer diagnosis back in April 2024.
Morgan Released Her Own Statement in Honor of Her Late Husband

In addition to Whitley’s touching words, his mother also made her own statement honoring White. Her manager, Tony Conway, shared the singer’s message with People. “Randy has been my partner and my rock for 17 years,” Morgan’s statement began. She also expressed the family’s mutual sadness at losing such an important member. ” I was blessed by his love,” she concluded. “Ran-Ran, I will love and miss you forever.”
The couple married back in 2010, and White was Morgan’s sixth husband. Although the majority of her previous marriages ended in divorce, the country singer did experience another tragic spousal loss in 1989. As The Independent reported, her second husband, Keith Whitley, died of alcohol poisoning.
