It’s an exciting time to be a “Scream” fan. The seventh entry of the popular slasher franchise has been in production and resurrecting original stars like David Arquette and Matthew Lillard, along with new suspects and victims. Paramount, the studio that took over the franchise from The Weinstein Co., has caused a fan frenzy by announcing cast members in the last few months.
Ghostface, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox & More Return to Scream
The new sequel is currently wrapping up filming in Atlanta under the working title “Scar Tissue.” This is the second time the franchise has filmed in Georgia, as the college campus shown in 1997’s “Scream 2” was in Decatur.
Joining Arquette and Lillard are veteran actors of the series Neve Campbell, the first star to be announced last year, and Courteney Cox as their iconic “final girl” characters Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers respectively. Cox broke a horror record in 2023 with “Scream VI” as the first woman to play the same horror character in six consecutive films. Make that seven now!
Plus, voice actor Roger L. Jackson, possibly the most important actor in the franchise, is returning to creep everyone out on the phone as the Ghostface killer. Can you imagine a “Scream” movie without his sinister sound?
Fans will remember that the killer sometimes used other voices on the line in past films, most notably in “Scream 3” when a voice changer had multiple voices for maximum trickery, but it’s Jackson’s voice that has the power.

Returning along with those OGs is Kevin Williamson, the creator of “Scream,” who now sits in the director’s chair. He shared on Instagram how exciting the first day of filming was for him as the helmer this time, saying, “When you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself. What an extraordinary day I had working with an amazing and talented cast and crew.”
Williamson has previously directed only one other film – “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” starring Katie Holmes in 1999 – but has been involved with every “Scream” film as a writer or producer. He also has extensive experience in the biz, having produced memorable hits like “Dawson’s Creek,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and more horror films that ignited a shift in the genre.
‘I Think People Are in for a Treat,’ Says Star Jasmin Savoy Brown
On February 13 at the “Yellowjackets” season 3 premiere, returning star Jasmin Savoy Brown told Deadline that working with Williamson “has been a dream” and that he’s a “delightful” and “encouraging” director. “I think people are in for a treat,” she said with a smile, enticing fans new and old.
Brown will be back as horror movie expert Mindy from “Scream” (2022) and “Scream VI,” along with Mason Gooding as her twin brother Chad, who (spoiler) surprisingly survived those last two entries. While promoting his new horror comedy “Heart Eyes,” Gooding touchingly told Entertainment Weekly, “The way I would say and ascertain that Jasmin saved my life emotionally, and probably literally, in a lot of cases meant wherever she goes, I will.”
One other actor officially returning to the franchise is Scott Foley, who recently talked to new “Scream” costar Mark Consuelos and wife Kelly Ripa on Live! With Kelly and Mark about his role. Like Arquette’s and Lillard’s characters, Foley’s character died in a previous entry, so their involvement in this new entry is a real head scratcher.
“I was so excited to revisit this character … even though he died,” Foley said on the talk show on February 10.
Williamson and team are keeping us on our toes. We’ll have to wait 11 months to see “Scream 7” on February 27, 2026, but until then, let the theories run wild.
