Horror fans are excited to hear that two franchises are coming back with new entries. Stars and scream queens Isabelle Fuhrman and Jessica Rothe each made announcements that their respective characters will be back in “Orphan 3” and “Happy Death Day 3.”
‘Orphan 3’ Will Up the Ante
Over the first weekend of April, “Orphan” star Fuhrman, who last played killer Esther in the prequel “Orphan: First Kill” opposite Julia Stiles, attended the Spookala convention and gave an update. According to Bloody Disgusting, she was happy to answer a question about the status of “Orphan 3,” which was green lit by the production company Dark Castle Entertainment late last year.
At the time, the company stated, “We are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.” The script has been written by returning screenwriter David Coggeshall. Director William Brent Bell is back as well.

Fuhrman confirmed that the new script has twists and turns that are “wilder and crazier” than the last. Because the risky prequel “Orphan: First Kill” was a buzzy success for Paramount+, the creative team has figured out a way to continue the story of the mysterious and sinister Esther, who is not forthcoming about her true self to adoptive parents.
Asked whether “Orphan 3” will be another prequel or a sequel to the original film, Fuhrman simply stated, “Both,” an “inbetweenquel.” Interesting! Either way, the makeup effects department will have some fun de-aging Fuhrman to look younger again.
‘Happy Death Day 3’ in the Works
Just days after filmmaker Christopher Landon told SFX magazine that there was sadly no update on “Happy Death Day 3,” he and actress Jessica Rothe dropped a surprise at a double-feature screening of the previous films.
“The third movie is moving forward,” Rothe told the crowd, according to Bloody Disgusting. Landon, by Rothe’s side, confirmed, “It is moving forward.”
This is not only good news for fans of the horror comedy franchise, about the Bayfield Babyface Killer repeatedly going after Roth’s character Tree Gelbman, but also for the creators. Rothe had told Coming Soon in 2020, “I would love if we had the opportunity to complete the trilogy,” and “I know that we will get to tell the rest of the story. I love Tree, I love that character so much, and I feel very, very grateful to have been a part of that.”

Likewise, Landon has publicly expressed how he’d love to continue the story. In that same March 26 issue of SFX magazine, he stated, “Both movies were financially very successful, so I think it’s left us and a lot of fans scratching their heads as to why we weren’t allowed to make a third.” He continued, “That’s entirely up to Blumhouse and Universal, if they have an appetite or interest in it.”
Luckily, those companies heard his plea, and the interest from fans, and are now officially working with the team again.
Meanwhile, Landon’s latest thriller “Drop” is about to drop into theaters April 11, and Rothe can be seen in the Netflix medical drama series “Pulse.”
