Longtime Bravo star Lisa Vanderpump is opening up about the reboot of her hit show, “Vanderpump Rules.” It’s back to business for the reality star as she attempts to find just the right mix of hard working people with big personalities. During an interview on Access Hollywood’s “Housewives Nightcap,” LVP shared a bit about what she’s looking for when it comes to casting.
“I’m looking for authenticity. I think that’s the first thing you look for. The people that can really just be themselves because nothing’s kind of as interesting as when people are just honest with their lives. I’m looking for great connections which always happens whether it’s positive or negative,” she said.
“When you are in the restaurant business, it’s a nucleus and it holds everybody together and that’s when things get complicated,” she added.
The restauranteur’s comments come more than a week after Bravo confirmed that the existing cast wouldn’t be returning for another season. Instead, the decision has been made to cast a new group of SUR employees to move forward.
“Vanderpump Rules” season 12 will be filming at SUR as well as TomTom, per LVP.
Lisa Vanderpump Felt the Story of the Former Cast Had Been Told Already
On November 26, Vanderpump shared a tribute of sorts to the cast that was.
“What a wild ride the last 11 years have been. Thank you to all of our cast for sharing your lives and stories and for being a part of this journey. How I’ve loved each and every one of you,” she wrote on Instagram.
Although she admitted to being sad about the closing of this chapter, Vanderpump is ready to move on.
“It felt like we told that story. I mean it’d been 12 years, 11 seasons so I think it was time to go back to grassroots…The whole premise of the show was about the restaurant business then it took off,” Vanderpump said on Housewives Nightcap.
“I cannot minimize and I don’t want to, the importance of how great that cast was, and how open they were and I love them all but it was time to call it a day and it was all of us, a lot of talks. And of course I’m sad,” she continued.
Katie Maloney Wasn’t Planning on Returning to ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Either Way
It seems much of the “Vanderpump Rules” cast had a feeling that their time on the show was up. Based on many of the farewell messages shared on social media, the cast feel gratitude for getting the opportunity to do the show to begin with.
However, there’s one person who was, perhaps, the least bothered by the news — and that’s Katie Maloney. The sandwich shop co-owner decided she was with the show long before Bravo made it for her.
“I didn’t plan on returning,” Maloney said on the December 4 episode of her “Disrespectfully” podcast. “I had made a decision months ago after this past season,” she continued. Maloney explained that she told producers how she was feeling.
“I needed to move on with my life,” she added.
Other cast members, including Scheana Shay, Tom Sandoval, Ariana Madix, Tom Schwartz, James Kennedy, and Lala Kent have other gigs to keep them busy. However, fans could see some of the cast jump over to “The Valley,” which stars Jax Taylor, Brittany Cartwright, and Kristen Doute.
