Mary Cosby of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” gave an update on her son, Robert Jr., months after they filmed an emotional on-camera conversation about his drug addiction.
During a December 5 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” Cosby revealed that her son is doing well after completing an inpatient treatment program for substance abuse. “Robert is doing so, so good,” Cosby told host Andy Cohen of her 21-year-old son. “I’m so proud of him. He did go [to rehab],” she said. “He stayed for a month, he completed it.”
The RHOSLC star added, “He did an excellent job. He came out a new person.”
Cosby also confirmed that Robert Jr.’s wife also went to rehab, and she is “still in there.” “She is very good,” Cosby added of her daughter-in-law.
Robert Jr. is Cosby’s only child with her husband Robert Cosby Sr. Her son has appeared in multiple episodes of RHOSLC since 2020. Robert Sr. no longer appears on the Bravo reality show, but Cosby told Cohen her husband was her support system during their son’s crisis. “I needed him,” she said of Robert Sr.

Cosby’s conversation with her son took place during the RHOSLC season 5 episode titled “Troop Salt Lake City.” After the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church pastor noticed that her son had become withdrawn, she allowed cameras into his room for a gut-wrenching conversation.
In the emotional scene, Cosby asked her son, “What are we doing? You got to be real. You got to talk to me.”
Robert admitted he had been taking Xanax. The prescription sedative is often used to treat anxiety, per The Cleveland Clinic. He revealed that he first took Xanax at age 16 when a friend offered it to him at a party. The 21-year-old added he also began taking Adderall, Oxycontin, and cocaine. When asked why he started taking drugs, Robert gave a heartbreaking answer. “Sometimes I feel like, I don’t know, life is like just chicken unseasoned,” he said. “I don’t know, when I get high, it’s adding seasoning to it.”
By the end of the conversation, both Cosby and her son were in tears as they hugged. “I can help you,” Cosby told her son. “I can try to help you, but you have to help yourself, because I’m not gonna support it. I’m not. You know I’m not.”
On WWHL, Cosby told Cohen what was said during the talk “wasn’t planned.” “We just came together Robert and I, and I said ‘We’re going to do this because we’re going to help someone,’” she shared as she began to cry. “He didn’t plan what he was going to say, and I didn’t plan. And I just said what I felt.”

On WWHL, Cosby also shared that almost all of her RHOSLC co-stars reached out to her after watching the episode. “I’ve heard from all of them except Lisa [Barlow],” she told Cohen, adding, “I don’t expect to hear from anyone.”
Cosby recently told Us Weekly that she never expected to address such a serious personal issue on the Bravo reality show. “It’s a heavy topic,” she said of Robert Jr.’s struggles. “But for me, because it all just came at once on me and I didn’t expect it, but I’m taking it day by day.”
