“Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Bronwyn Newport is opening up about becoming a mother at 19 years old to her daughter Gwen, 18.
In a November 2024 interview on Nick Viall’s podcast, “The Viall Files,” Newport said while her family was disappointed in her for getting pregnant, they “did a really beautiful job of supporting Gwen.” In addition, Newport said her parents did not offer her financial help. However, they watched after her child when needed.
Newport also said she went back to work two days after Gwen was born. She explained she felt the need to do so because her workplace was competitive. In addition, she felt pressure to provide for Gwen.
“I had Gwen on a Monday and I went to work on a Wednesday. I was a single mom,” said Newport during the interview. “Yeah, I went to work on a Wednesday. I worked in finance at the time. And a lot of it is kill or be killed. For sure.”
Newport also said that neither Gwen’s father nor his family had a presence in her daughter’s life. She then noted that Gwen’s father died when she was a young child. She said while she felt “so so so much sadness for Gwen,” she also felt “a little bit of relief” because she would not have to share custody of her daughter.
“I never have to share her, we never have to do this custody thing. I know that sounds really awful,” said Newport to Viall.
Newport also said she believed Gwen’s father would have eventually wanted a relationship with his daughter if he had survived.
Bronwyn Newport Spoke About Her Relationship With Her Husband
While recording the “Viall Files” podcast episode, Newport said that her husband Todd Bradley and Gwen “are very close” and have similar personalities. She also shared that her husband, whom she wed in 2016, met her daughter when she was 8-years-old.
While speaking to Page Six in October 2024, Newport noted that her husband shut down a conversation about Gwen potentially meeting her late father’s parents in RHOSLC season 4. Newport explained her husband had a stern reaction because he knows the issue is painful for her and her daughter.
“Todd was willing to be, in that moment, ‘I don’t care if people like me or not. We are not doing this. I care about Bronwyn. I care about Gwen. And this is going nowhere good for either of them,’” said Newport to Page Six.
Bronwyn Newport Discussed Her Daughter’s Relationship With Her Biological Grandparents
During an October 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Newport shared that Gwen still does not have a relationship with her late father’s parents. She said she would like Gwen to eventually connect with her biological grandparents, despite their past issues.
“I always hope that [their relationship] changes in the future. I always think everyone should get all the love and support that they can. And as soon as that feels like a loving and supportive avenue, I hope that they are able to take that path together. It’s probably for best if I’m not a part of that path,” said Newport during the Entertainment Tonight interview.
