Andy Cohen Reveals the Truth About ‘Difficult’ TV Cameo: ‘So Funny’

Andy Cohen  set the record straight about his recent cameo on HBO Max’s “Sex and the City” spinoff, “And Just Like That.” The Bravo host played a Bergdorf Goodman shoe salesman, Daniel, in a brief scene in the Season 4 episode, “Present Tense,” with series star Sarah Jessica Parker.

But even though he only had one line, Cohen revealed the shoot was a bit of a disaster.

Speaking on his Sirius XM show, “Andy Cohen Live,” in July 2025, Cohen recalled, “I think the line in the script was just like, ‘Oh hey, Carrie, I’ll be with you in a sec.’”

But after a few takes, showrunner Michael Patrick King changed the line to, “Hey, Carrie, I’m slammed, I’ll be with you in a minute.”

Cohen admitted he overacted while delivering his sole line. “When I tell you that I was marching out like, ‘Carrie, I am slammed! I’m gonna be with you in a minute!'” he said. “And Michael Patrick King comes over after we do it twice, and he goes, ‘Um, this is a really pivotal scene for Carrie.'”

“He didn’t tell me, but now I know that she just had a big fight with Aidan (John Corbett),” Cohen added.

“[King told me] ‘You’re stealing focus from Carrie. The episode title should now be called ‘Daniel’s Busiest Day.’ And it’s not about ‘Daniel’s Busiest Day,’ keep it on Carrie!'” Cohen added. “I was just a disaster. But it was so funny, the idea that it was ‘Daniel’s Busy Day.'”

“Shooting these shows for me is very difficult,” Cohen noted. “You have to literally walk four steps, say your line at a particular spot, and then keep going. There’s a lot of blocking involved, and I just don’t — I’m not good at it.”

Andy Cohen Was Thankful to Reprise His ‘Role’ from ‘Sex and the City’

While the shoot didn’t go off without a hitch, Cohen was happy to reprise his role as the Bergdorf shoe salesman after a previous non-speaking role as a Barney’s shoe salesman in the “Sex and the City” Season 6 episode “Let There Be Light.”

On July 24,  Cohen posted photos from his two cameos as Daniel with a thank you to King. “How it went… how it’s going!” he wrote. “Thank you Michael Patrick King for bringing back the BELOVED character of ‘Barney’s Shoe Salesman’… who is now a Bergdorf’s Shoe salesman named DANIEL! #SATC #AJLT.”

Andy Cohen Had a Rough Audition for a Previous Role

Cohen may have been lucky to get a second (or third) chance with King. He previously revealed that he once auditioned for the role of Anthony Marentino, the event planner played by Mario Cantone on the original HBO series. The one-off part turned into a permanent role for Cantone on the AJLT spinoff.

“Michael Patrick King, for some reason, was like, ‘Come in and read for…,” Cohen said of his ill-fated audition in the late 1990s, per People magazine. “The part that wound up going to Mario Cantone.”

“It was so bad,” he added of his audition.
