Trisha Paytas is sharing the story behind her newborn son’s unique name—and what he almost was called instead.
Paytas, 37, and her husband, Moses Hacmon, welcomed their third child, Aquaman Moses Paytas-Hacmon, on July 12. But on the July 22 episode of her podcast “Just Trish,” the internet personality revealed a very different name was once at the top of their list.
Keeping It Aquatic
“I will say my number one that we were so close to naming the baby is not a movie poster, but I loved it so much. It’s Moses’ poem ‘Water Snake,’” Paytas said on the podcast.
The poem was originally shared on YouTube by Hacmon in 2017, and the name carried symbolic meaning for the couple.
“I love ‘Water Snake.’ It’s the Year of the Snake, Moses is a snake,” Paytas explained. “We love water. I loved [the movie] ‘Water World.’ I loved the name Water.”
“At the end of the day, Moses loves water. I’ve adopted his philosophy,” added the former “Celebrity Big Brother” star.
Exploring Aquaman Lore and Other Name Contenders
In addition to “Water Snake,” Paytas shared several other names she and Hacmon considered for their son.
“I did love Moses Jr., too,” she said. “I really love that too. And I liked Aladdin. It wasn’t water-themed, but I always loved Aladdin. Moses hated that. He vetoed Paper Man and Aladdin pretty quick, so we switched.”
Ultimately, their fascination with the DC superhero sealed the decision.
“I’ve been wearing Aquaman T-shirts for years, since 2017 when the first ‘Justice League’ came out,” she said. “I have gone to so many Comic Cons for Aquaman. And I really fell in love when we rewatched ‘Aquaman.’”
Paytas said she even revisited the cartoon versions of “Aquaman” to fully understand the character’s mythology and how it connected with her family.
“He’s of two heritages, like our baby,” she explained. “He connects the land and sea, which is Moses’ order at Benihana. He can talk telepathically to fish. He’s also blonde and brunette, which—plot twist: our Aquaman has blonde hair.”
The social media star married Moses Hacmon on Dec. 11, 2021. According to People, the couple’s relationship began to deepen after they spent time quarantining together during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their initial connection came shortly after Hacmon appeared on Paytas’ podcast alongside YouTuber Ethan Klein, who is married to Hacmon’s sister, Hila Klein.
Paytas and Hacmon are also parents to daughters Malibu Barbie, 2, and Elvis, 13 months.
