Warning: This post contains spoilers for Season 27 of “Big Brother.” Read at your own risk!
Last week in the Hotel Mystere, fans watched as the first eviction ceremony of the summer took place live.
After a tumultuous first week in the Big Brother house, Kelley saved herself from nomination in the BB Blockbuster competition.
Ultimately, Zae was evicted over Amy in a vote of nine to five. The vote garnered a mix of responses from the houseguests, as Zae’s ally Zach openly cried at his new friend’s departure, while Rachel and some of the other women in the house celebrated Amy’s safety.
Now, the second HOH of the summer is up for grabs. Now that battle lines have been drawn, the title is more important than ever. Who will win HOH? What special powers will be revealed? Who will be the next three houseguests nominated for eviction.
July 20 Live Recap
8:05 p.m: We get to see the aftermath of Zae’s eviction. While Rachel and Vinny are happy with the result, Zach is upset over the loss of his new friend and ally. Kelley excuses herself to cry in private – happy tears, because of her BB Blockbuster win.
Keanu isn’t aware that Rylie flipped on the Burger Boys alliance, voting to save Amy. Rylie goes to Rachel and Ashley, asking to team up with them in exchange for safety in the coming weeks.
Amy, Rachel and Jimmy discuss who voted to evict Amy, and solidify their team going into the HOH competition. Meanwhile, Will and Keanu are also trying to figure out who voted to evict Zae. But Keanu is suspicious – he doesn’t agree with Will about Kelley voting to save Amy.
Keanu goes to Kelley about Will’s concerns, and decides that Will must be a spy from the other side of the house. He goes to Rylie and Adrian, saying that he now believes Will is the rogue vote for Zae and should be a target. The Burger Boys are imploding!
8:10 p.m: Will figures out that Keanu has turned against him. He pulls Adrian and Kelley aside and convinces them to believe him. Zach doesn’t want to lose another ally so quickly after Zae’s eviction, so he hopes to win the HOH.
8:20 p.m: An alarm sounds! The HOH competition begins. The HOH key and three mystery powers are hidden in the “sewers” beneath the Hotel Mystere. Houseguests must search for them in three pitch black rooms. Vince, the outgoing HOH, is able to compete, but only for the three mystery powers.
Keanu snags one of the mystery powers. Rachel discovers a power, but puts it down to grab something else.
Jimmy finds the HOH key – which makes him the second HOH of the season!
8:30 p.m: Two powers are still up for grabs. Jimmy decides to sit in the starting room by Ava (who opted to sit out of the competition) to figure out who will claim the other mystery powers.
Mickey secures the second power. Kelley finds the last power, but, unlike Mickey, talks to Jimmy before claiming it – letting him know that she has something.
8:40 p.m: Jimmy’s first priority as HOH is finding out who won the other two powers. He starts interrogating people one-on-one. Keanu and Mickey both tell him that they don’t have any powers.
Keanu’s power doubles his chance to win the Veto. A houseguest from a previous season will come back to play in the competition on his behalf. He confides in Kelley that he has a power – and she agrees to keep it secret.
But when Kelley comes to Jimmy about her power, she slips up and tells him that she told Keanu about her power. While Jimmy doesn’t suspect Keanu’s power, he is unsure about Kelley working with him.
Kelley’s power is revealed to us. It allows her to play a second, secret Veto competition to win another veto that she can use to remove herself or an ally from the block.
Mickey tells Morgan about her power. With it, she can anonymously dethrone the reigning HOH and take their power for the week. The former HOH can interrogate all of the houseguests, and if they discover Mickey overthrew them, they remain HOH. But, if not, Mickey will become that week’s Head of Household. (Very overpowered!)
So far, Mickey is the only mystery power-holder who has confided in someone else about what their power actually does.
8:50 p.m: Jimmy wants to nominate Keanu. Many of the other houseguests are fine with evicting him. According to Jimmy, he wants to have a “clean” HOH, and keep blood off his hands for the coming weeks.
He goes to Kelley, telling her that he plans to nominate Keanu and needs pawns to ensure that he leaves. She once again agrees to be a pawn. Looks like Kelley’s BB Blockbuster win has made her confident that she can safe herself in a pinch. (But how confident is too confident?)
Jimmy then approaches Adrian, warning him that he may put him, Lauren or Rylie on the block as a second pawn. Of course, Adrian is unsettled by this – as a BB fan himself, he knows that pawns can very easily go home.
8:55 p.m: The nomination ceremony begins. Jimmy nominates Keanu, Kelley and Adrian for eviction this week.
Jimmy says that Keanu has been playing too many people against each other and it’s come back to bite him, very clearly defining him as this week’s target. Keanu, ever unbothered, puts on a pair of sunglasses and pretends to snore.
Who will win the Veto? Will Kelley or Keanu use their secret Veto abilities this week?
On Wednesday, we’ll find out whether or not Jimmy will get the smooth HOH reign he’s banking on.
