Exciting New Challenges

Zuri Hall said there were 25 new obstacles, and old favorites were back as well.

Contestants win $10 grand for conquering the mega wall.

The hosts went over a quick recap, showing a few fails from the prior episode before they got into the competition.

Viewers were shown a flashback to Mack, aka “The King,” who was out on the very first obstacle he tried.

They also gave a flashback of 17-year-old Emily Gardiner crashing into the pool.


American Ninja Warrior Top 20 Results: Qualifying in Vegas

First up was Nick Hanson, an Olympic hopeful in the sport of rugby. Hanson was tackled by the log runner. His foot placement tripped him up.

Next came Christian Hart, a 16-year-old from Connecticut who is on his eight season of competing. Hart started smoothly, and looked nervous at the logrunner, but sailed past it. However, he was eliminated when a short swing on his last move made his foot dip into the water.

Up next was Ethan, a teen who is battling his anxiety. “Only an hour ago, I was thinking about not running,” he said in a previous episode. He soared past each obstacle to become the first successful finisher of the night!

Next up came a 40-year-old mom named Michelle with a touching story about raising a premature baby who is now 3, and was recently diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Michelle became trapped on one of the rolling logs, and unbelivably lifted herself to a push-up position and tried to leap to the next log before falling in the water.

Although Michelle was eliminated, hosts called it one of the best efforts they have seen on the obstacle.

Phillip Scott was up next. He finished by beating the mega wall, triumphantly pushing the buzzer.

Next was Desmond Odom. He fell as soon as he stepped onto his first obstacle, the rolling log.

Spencer Johnson was the next athlete to attempt to conquer the course. The former gymnast patriotically sported an American flag themed headband. The 37-year-old dad slipped into the water on a swinging article. He called the feeling of being back on the course “surreal.”

Jason Behrends, the glasses-wearing high schooler who American Ninja Warrior “the family business,” conquered each obstacle and stormed up the mega wall despite being the shortest athlete ever to attempt it. he triumphantly jumped up and down after advancing with ease.

Greg Justice and Dylan Yee also gave strong efforts, but ultimately faltered.

James McGrath has competed over 13 times. “The Beast” finished the course, hitting the buzzer for his 24th time.

Jackson Erdos, the former junior Ninja Warrior champion, was next. In a featurette, he opened up about his depression and anxiety, saying “I couldn’t get away from the fact that nobody what I did, I just felt sad.” He said a combination of group therapy and talking to new people “turned me into this new person.”

The inspiring teen claimed the fastest time of the night.

Josiah Pippel stepped up, who is known for his love of lizards. The hosts called him “a favorite to win it all.”

Pippel sailed through the course and zoomed up the ramp without even pausing to prepare. However, he failed to win the $10k prize that would have come if he’d made it up the Mega Wall.
