Scotty McCreery Announces Career Break for a Touching Reason

“American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery is taking a little break from music, and the reason behind this choice couldn’t be sweeter. As he explained to The Express US, the singer wants to be sure he’s 100% present for a huge life milestone at home.

“I’m getting home as soon as possible from [the Gstaad Festival] because my wife’s due for our second child after that,” he said on August 21, 2025. “So I’ll be getting home and taking some time off to help with the next little baby.” The festival takes place in September in Switzerland.

McCreery Previously Announced Wife Gabi’s Pregnancy on Social Media

McCreery first broke the news of his wife’s second pregnancy in an Instagram post from May 2025. The singer shared a sweet photo of his current family of three, along with a brief but heartfelt caption. “A new best friend coming this fall!” he wrote.

The couple’s first child, Merrick Avery (who is still a toddler as of this publication) wears an adorable “Big Brother” sweatshirt in the photos. The post generated over 87,000 likes from supportive fans, many of whom flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages. Even fellow “American Idol” alum Lauren Alaina showed the couple some love, writing, “Yay!!!! Congrats,” in response to the post.

The Singer is Excited to be a Dad Again

When speaking with The Express US, McCreery shared that he’s been feeling some jitters about becoming a father for the second time. “I’m a little nervous just trying to remember what we did the first time,” he said. However, he also shared that he’s very excited about their new addition.

 “And you know, it’s going to be double trouble running around the house now,” he said lightheartedly. “But it’s all great things. We’re excited.” McCreery also revealed that the couple will welcome a second son, and that little Merrick is already thrilled. “He’s always patting mommy’s belly and saying hey. So I think he’s going to be a great big brother,” the singer said.

Fans won’t have to wait terribly long for McCreery to resume performing, though. As his official website notes, he’ll be hitting the road with Dustin Lynch later in the year. The pair’s “Two For The Road” tour kicks off on November 6, 2025.
