Luke Bryan Explains Bizarre Reason He Ended Up in Music

Luke Bryan is revealing just how ended up on stage singing to millions.

The “American Idol” judge told Katie Neal on her show, “Katie & Company” that he was not only the youngest in his grade in school, he was also the shortest!

The now 6’2″ singer reveals, “I was the latest bloomer. In the tenth grade, I was 5’7″! In the tenth grade!”

But it’s the growth spurt that got him from 5’7″ to 6’2″ that changed the course of Luke’s life.

“I grew so quickly, I couldn’t play sports any more,” he told Katie. “I looked like a baby giraffe.”

“And then that’s what made me, essentially, pick up guitar, the fact that sports went away,” Luke went on.

Luke Bryan Says He ‘Came Into His Own’ In College

While Luke Bryan is almost as famous for his on-stage antics and crazy sense of humor as he is for his singing, that wasn’t always the case.

“I really kind of came into my own in college,” Luke reveals. “Knowing you now, I’d be like-‘he was class clown in high school,” Katie said.

“Yeah, no, I wasn’t. Because I wasn’t really mature enough to plant that flag. I thnk I was just quiet. I had confidence, but then when I got to college.. and then I took like a leap year, so I was older in college, so that helped,” Luke explained.

Luke Bryan Celebrates 32nd No. 1 Song

That growth spurt has led Luke Bryan to an incredibly successful career in country music.

The singer just celebrated his 32nd number one hit on country radio for “A Country Song Came On.”

In an Instagram post on August 18, Luke thanked his fans, writing, “Thank y’all for making #CountrySongCameOn my 32nd # 1 at country radio”

Luke continues on his tour by that same name through September 6.

Just a few weeks later, Bryan will circle back to his “Farm Tour.

That tour brings concerts to America’s farmers, setting up stages right in the middle of the farmland in small towns throughout the country. This year, Bryan expanded that tour, bringing three shows to California farmers for the first time in May.

The “Strip It Down” singer is also returning to Mexico for his 11th annual “Crash My Playa Music Festival” in January.

Concerts Take a Back Seat to Family Time

But while his schedule may be jam-packed, concerts take a backseat to Luke’s time with his family.

Luke has specifically designed his concert schedule to leave his Fridays free, explaining on Country Countdown USA that the reason centers on his sons, Bo (17) and Tate (14.)

“Bo is playing high school football,” Luke revealed. “I try to take every Friday off so I can see him play.  Tate is playing golf too.  Bo has been driving, so we don’t see him as much any more.  I don’t know what we’re going to do when he goes off to college.”

Luke is also fitting in plenty of time for fishing and hunting with his sons, saying they have plenty of trips planned based around the openings of various seasons like dove hunting, duck hunting and bow hunting.
