Katy Perry Confirmed for Space Mission With All-Female Crew: ‘Celestial Sisters’

Though she’s about to crisscross the globe on her 2025 world tour, pop star and former “American Idol” judge Katy Perry has somewhere else to go first: outer space.

On February 27, 2025, Blue Origin announced that Perry is one of six people selected for New Shepard’s 11th human flight this spring. Perry won’t be the only celebrity in the company’s first all-female flight crew, though. “CBS Mornings” host Gayle King and journalist Lauren Sanchez are also confirmed for the NS-31 mission.

In a social media post after the announcement, Perry wrote, “If you had told me that I would be part of the first ever all-female crew in space, I would have believed you ♥️😉”

“Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child,” she continued. “Although we didn’t grow up with much, I never stopped looking at the world with hopeful WONDER! I work hard to live my life that way still, and I am motivated more than ever to be an example for my daughter that women should take up space (pun intended).”

Perry continued, “That’s why this opportunity is so incredible — so that I can show all of the youngest & most vulnerable among us to reach for the stars, literally and figuratively. I am honored to be among this diverse group of celestial sisters ✨🚀”

Who’s Heading to Space With Katy Perry?

In a press release, Blue Origin said Sanchez — who is engaged to the company’s owner, Jeff Bezos — brought the six-person crew together for the mission. Perry and Sanchez have been photographed together on multiple getaways in recent years.

“She is honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come,” the statement said.

The other crew members are former NASA rocket scientist, entrepreneur, and global STEM advocate Aisha Bowe; bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen; and community building philanthropist Kerianne Flynn.

Blue Origin said its New Shepard program has “flown 52 people above the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space.” It also said NS-31 will be the first all-female flight crew to space since Valentina Tereshkova flew solo in 1963.

Daredevil Fiancé Orlando Bloom Said in 2024 That Katy Perry Takes ‘Very Calculated Risks’

Though Blue Origin didn’t give a date for the mission, its statement said the crew would blast off in the spring of 2025. Perry’s world tour is scheduled to kick off on April 23 in Mexico City.

Her mission will come one year after she supported her fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom, on his own gravity-defying adventures chronicled on his Peacock adventure series, “Orlando Bloom: To the Edge.” While promoting the show in April 2024, Bloom told E! News that though she supported his endeavors, she wasn’t a daredevil herself.

He told the outlet, “I did say, ‘Do you want to jump out of the plane?’ She goes, ‘No, no way.’ She takes very calculated risks, which I respect and is something that I can learn from. She loves life, but I think is not really interested in terrifying herself.”

He did, however, convince her to jump out of a low-flying helicopter in August. Next stop: space.
