Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” at the 2025 inauguration of Donald Trump.
“The View” star Whoopi Goldberg shared her opinion about Underwood, saying that she supports the country singer’s decision.
“People do what they do for whatever reason,” Goldberg said. “I stand behind her. “If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform some place, I believe [she has] the same right. I have to support.”
“It doesn’t mean I’m particularly interested,” she added. “I won’t be watching, but that’s me.”
Joy Behar Also Gave Her Opinion
During the January 14 episode of “The View,” the co-hosts discussed the news that Underwood is performing at Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Joy Behar shared her perspective, noting that she couldn’t understand why the “American Idol” winner would take the gig.
Behar noted, “I would not be the person to say, ‘Don’t do it,’ because I believe in free speech and everything about it. I personally would not do it. No one’s asked me, but that’s another story.”
Former “The View” co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck showed her support for Carrie Underwood. She wrote on her Instagram Stories, “Joy — @carrieunderwood is an incredible woman. You could learn from her strength.”
Carrie Underwood Released a Statement About the Inauguration Performance
Underwood shared a statement following the news, expressing that she’s “honored” to be part of the event.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” the “American Idol” judge said in the statement. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
She will perform the song with the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club. According to a program for the event, Underwood will sing after J.D. Vance is sworn in as vice president and before Trump is sworn in as president.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combined Chorus, the United States Marine Marching Band, and classical singer Christopher Macchio are also set to perform at the Washington, D.C. event on January 20.
The Village People, Jason Aldean, Billy Ray Cyrus, Kid Rock, and Rascal Flatts are set to perform at an event on January 19, ahead of inauguration day.
