After a whirlwind, stressful week that included two days of filming at Disneyland and preparation for two live shows, the remaining seven contestants on season 23 of “American Idol” sang their hearts out during the first of two Disney nights on May 11, 2025.
Now, the top 5 must also be ready to perform — and viewers must be ready to vote — during another Disney-themed round on May 12, airing live coast-to-coast starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time. Once again, fans have less than two hours to vote before the final three is revealed by host Ryan Seacrest.
Those three will get to head to their hometowns for parades and concerts, and the compete in the finale. But with no saves from the judges anymore, all eliminations depend on viewers’ votes. Here’s what to expect and how to cast your votes live…
Voting Instructions for ‘American Idol’ Disney Nights: 3 Ways to Vote
Voting will open at the start of each episode at 8 p.m. Eastern time, per ABC, and will close during the last commercial break, around 9:50 p.m. Eastern time. Once again, viewers have three ways to vote. You can cast up to 10 votes for each of your favorite singers on each platform — totaling up to 30 votes per contestant.
The first way to vote is through ABC’s website. The second way is via the “American Idol” app, either via Apple for iPhones or via Google for Androids. Both the site and app require signing in; you can create a free account that works for both or use an existing MyDisney account.
On the website and app, you do not have to wait until your favorites perform to vote for them, but if you change your mind as the show goes on, you can change your votes, as long as you click to “save” your changes before voting ends.
The third way to vote is by texting a favorite contestant’s unique contestant number — provided below — to 21523. As with the other voting options, you can cast up to 10 votes for each contestant you think should advance in the competition.
The contestants’ unique numbers are below, in alphabetical order:
- Breanna Nix — Text 9 to 21523
- Jamal Roberts — Text 12 to 21523
- John Foster — Text 13 to 21523
- Slater Nalley — Text 11 to 21523
- Thunderstorm Artis — Text 23 to 21523
What to Expect From May 12 ‘American Idol’ Live Show
For the first time, ABC is airing two back-to-back Disney Nights instead of just one. The top 7 worked with guest mentor Tony-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has written songs and soundtracks for many Disney projects, from 2016’s “Moana” to 2021’s “Encanto.” They each sang a Disney tune and a song dedicated to important women in their lives for Mother’s Day.
Now, the top 5 will have to perform two more Disney songs on the May 12 episode. Miranda will be on-site to offer encouragement and feedback, per ABC. Season 22 winner Iam Tongi will also be there, performing “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from the upcoming live action “Lilo & Stitch” movie.
Meanwhile, the two contestants cut at the end of the May 11 show — Gabby Samone and Mattie Pruitt — didn’t actually head home. They’ll stay in Los Angeles to rehearse for the May 19 finale with fellow finalists who are returning to take part in the big show.
