Simpson stepped out on stage in a stunning sparkly dress with a high slit. She also debuted dirty blonde locks—a subtle yet striking shift from her signature platinum blonde hair.
For her first performance, Simpson sang her brand new single “Blame Me.” She was later joined by eliminated contestant Josh King for a crowd-pleasing duet of her iconic 2005 rendition of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.”
Simpson has been gearing up for her big TV comeback. On Sunday, she shared on Instagram a behind-the-scenes look at her preparations ahead of the performance.
The singer posted a video of herself moments before the “American Idol” rehearsal. Her preparation clearly paid off when she received a standing ovation from the show’s judges, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie.
