Carrie Underwood Admits She Had a ‘Rough Night’ on Live ‘American Idol’ Show

Carrie Underwood has her first live “American Idol” show under her belt as a new judge in season 23. The singer admitted that it wasn’t easy by any means because they had to cut so many hopefuls.

Carrie Underwood Says Live ‘Idol’ Show Was ‘Rough’ for Her

In an April 21 interview with ETOnline, Underwood shared how she was feeling during the live show.

“I heard you had a rough night,” the interviewer noted.

“I did,” the singer responded, adding, “I mean, my night was paling in comparison to the contestants that are no longer a part of the competition, but it is an extremely tough spot to be in.”

Underwood added, “I really just wanted to pass the buck off to Luke [Bryan] and Lionel [Richie], but I feel like we were on the same page.”

When asked which was harder, being an “American Idol” contestant or a judge, the country star said there are “pros and cons to both.”

She explained, “It’s nerves everywhere, but different kinds of nerves because at the end of the day [as a judge], I’m still here.”

Underwood shared that there is a lot of pressure in her new role, however. “I don’t take it lightly that we have people’s futures in our hands, and I really would like just America to vote,” she admitted.

The singer added, “I don’t want to be put in that position again, so it’s up to you guys. You have to vote for your favorites. Please.”

Underwood Admits She Has Dreams About Being on ‘American Idol’

Underwood may have won season 4 of “American Idol” and went on to have a successful career, but she says she still has dreams about being on the show.

In an interview with Extra, she shared, “I actually have dreams often where I’m like trying out for ‘American Idol’ again. And in my dream, I’m like, I know that I won and it’s like, ‘Do I wanna try out again? Do I think I can win again? What if I lose this time?'”

In reality, Underwood said she wouldn’t want to go through that again, but said “it feels great” to be back on the show with “so many familiar faces.”

The singer added, “It’s definitely different being behind the desk, but it’s been a lot of fun so far.”

She noted that they had to make a “huge cut” on the episode, which made her feel guilty because “there’s so much talent.”
