Many talented hopefuls perform on “America’s Got Talent” for fame and exposure, but there’s also the enticing cash prize the winner gets each season.
According to “AGT’s” website, the $1,000,000 is offered to the winning individual or group, but there is a caveat.
The show states that increments of the total amount are doled out over 40 years, which equals $25,000 annually before taxes.
Should the contestants want the lump sum at once, they’ll take home significantly less — about $300,000 before taxes, per Forbes.
Past AGT Winners Got a Show in Las Vegas
Some of the “AGT” acts got the chance to perform in Las Vegas at the Luxor Hotel, such as season 8’s Taylor Williamson and Emily West from season 9.
Unfortunately, the last show took place in 2024, and it’s unclear if “America’s Got Talent Presents: Superstars Live” will have a presence on the Strip following season 20.
In 2023, Forbes reported that the show ran for 85 minutes and featured eight acts from “AGT.” In just two years, around 500,000 fans visited the Las Vegas variety show, which ran Thursday-Sunday.
“It has been an honor to collaborate with the AGT team to bring the talent from one of television’s most exciting competition shows to the Las Vegas Strip, and we hope to work together again in the future,” a statement from MGM Resorts International read, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The statement continued, “We have loved being home to these world-class entertainers and wish all of these incredible performers the best of luck as they continue their careers. We’ll be proudly cheering them on.”
How Last Season’s ‘AGT’ Winner Spent His Money
The winner of “AGT” season 19 was school janitor Richard Goodall, but the prize money wasn’t enough for him to quit his job right away.
“I plan to [work] for a while still yet, and then invest a little, and then plan smart,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
Referring to his wife, Goodall continued, “Angela and I, we think everything out together. We don’t make any plans other than what we talk about together. We’re not fancy people, so it’s not going to be anything fancy or extravagant.”
He added, “We’re just regular people, and the money is … we just try to be conservative about it. We have no idea or expectations of what’s coming ahead.”
“Whatever comes our way, Ange and I are going to talk it over and see what’s right for us and then move forward. Yeah, I would like to sing music across America or whatever,” the singer shared.
Goodall said, “And I think the most important thing — and we’ve already achieved that in some ways — is to inspire people to not give up on their dreams, move forward, not give up hope, and to look for a brighter day.”
