“America’s Got Talent” Season 20 premiered on Tuesday, May 27, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and impressed fans with the interesting and diverse acts. The reality competition has found the formula for entertaining television, but the show would not be the same without host Terry Crews!
Crews joined AGT for Season 14 in 2019 and has become an incredibly valued member of the team. But he has no interest in ever changing his job title from host to judge.
Why Does Terry Crews Not Want To Be a Judge on AGT?
Judging a talent competition seems like a dream job for many people, but it is not for actor and AGT host, Terry Crews. “That’s not my thing,” he told People on May 26. “I mean, I am 100% the bodyguard of talent because when I look at all the people that come through here, they just remind me of me.”
He continued, “I remember just sitting in Michigan praying one day if I get my shot to come out to L.A. and make it happen, and they remind me of everything that I’ve been through. So I protect it and I watch them.”
Crews also commented on how he enjoys bringing comfort to the contestants. “I’m the counselor when they go on. I give them all the good advice when they come off. If it didn’t go well, I console them,” he said. “So I love that.” And he is the perfect guy for the job!
Who Are the AGT Judges?
The judging panel for this season has been switched up. Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara returned to their judging gigs, but longtime host Heidi Klum is replaced by Spice Girl Melanie Brown, better known as Mel B. The “Wannabe” singer’s return to the show comes after a six-year hiatus. She was previously a judge from Season 8 to Season 13.
Although we won’t see Crews take a seat on the judging panel, he told People he feels Chris Rock would be a great addition. He also discussed how the hosting job was his “dream gig” and added, “Where else can you go where the whole world is watching?”
It is a pretty great judging panel! “It really a ‘feel good panel’ and you know what you’re talking about and you are really different,” showrunner Sam Donnelly told Mandel in an interview with Variety on May 27. “But you all get on great. Like a family — like a family, not a dysfunctional family, a real family.”
